BIOTOP BY KESTUTIS SVIRNELIS

The image shows a fenced construction site, at the center of which lies a monumental installation in the form of a microorganism made of inflated streamers. A man, who appears small in relation to the imposing structure, stands in front and touches one of the streamers.

"There is never an empty space; something disappears, and in its place, something else immediately appears, perhaps invisible to us, but it appears nonetheless. If we were to observe the city from above in a time-lapse, we would see empty spaces forming and then filling up again.

The best way to survive is to live in a collective – in a biotope.

I treat a fenced construction site like a petri dish, where a large microorganism is being cultivated, so large that one feels tiny in comparison.

I hope this work offers the viewers a different perspective and provokes thought."
