In a time when efficiency, speed, and constant visibility dominate as social imperatives, Camila Cañeque’s works enact a radical refusal. Her artistic practice revolves around themes such as stillness, withdrawal, unproductivity, and loss.
In I’ll wait in the car, the artist deliberately withdraws from her own exhibition opening, remaining in a car parked in front of the venue for the entire duration of the event. This performative absence becomes a gesture of refusal – a quiet protest against the expectation of presence in an increasingly digitally mediated world. At St. Maria als..., the video establishes a tension between participation and retreat, between interior and exterior, between center and periphery.
