Camila Cañeque

Kurzbiografie

Camila Cañeque examines signs of exhaustion that pervade our present through her performances, installations, objects, and texts. In her artistic practice, she combines figurative and abstract compositions within a visual language shaped by consumer-driven society, creating an ode to inactivity—a counter-narrative to our fast-paced and hyper-connected times. Through her post-utopian and phantasmagoric images of stillness, she explores the burden of memory and cultural heritage. Her work has been shown, among others, at the Queens Museum New York (2016), Vermelho Gallery São Paulo (2015) and CaixaForum Barcelona (2020). She has participated in international residencies, including ZK/U Berlin (2015) and MANA Contemporary in New Jersey (2019), and was a finalist for the Miguel Casablancas Award. Her book La última frase was published in 2024 by La Uña Rota and received the Zenda Ópera Prima Prize (2023–2024).
