With the performative work Tunnel Assembly, the Office for Joint Administrative Intelligence (O.J.A.I.) investigates the pedestrian underpass under Hauptstätter Straße, one of Stuttgart's central traffic junctions. The performance is a product of their longstanding research into highway architecture and its surplus spaces.
In a guided walk, the artist duo temporarily transforms the tunnel into an enclave for infrastructural fortunetelling. Sound, spoken texts, drawings, measurements and ritualized interactions with the traffic infrastructure serve as the starting point for the performative walk, complemented by a distilled drink made from fruit collected along the edges of the Brussels ring road.
Office for Joint Administrative Intelligence is the joint project of Chris Dreier and Gary Farrelly. Their research-based artistic practice operates between corporate architecture, urban periphery, institutional power and speculative magic — expressed through performances, installations, publications and radio broadcasts.
