In her artistic practice, Mila Panić combines personal and collective narratives of migration with strategies of mobility, memory and resistance. With Jokes, Panić brings stand-up comedy into the art context as a deliberate rupture to the seriousness of museum spaces. Humor serves as a strategy of self-empowerment and criticism: a means of articulating anger, fear and social exhaustion. In a time of growing tensions, Jokes fosters spaces for laughter to become a form of resistance. Humor is used to criticize, undermine and change dominant cultural narratives. Her practice of stand-up comedy, visual art and writing derive their inspiration from the same source — from a spectrum of irritation, anger and madness. What underlies and drives it all, is fear. These elements become the foundation to reshape the visitors' perspectives on various issues.
